  2. 8:00 AM Breakfast in Pekan Kundasang — market stalls open early.
  3. 10:00 AM Desa Dairy Farm — feed the calves, try the fresh milk and gelato. Pre-book online.
  4. 12:30 PM Kundasang War Memorial — a quiet, beautiful memorial with four themed gardens.

  8. 7:00 PM Steamboat dinner at your homestay. Ask your host to arrange it if not included.

Two nights in Kundasang

For guests who want the full Kinabalu experience. This is the plan most of our hosts recommend.

  1. Day 1 · 3 PM Arrive, check in. Take the afternoon slow — the altitude is a real adjustment.
  2. Day 1 · 5 PM Sosodikon Hill for sunset — or stay at the homestay and watch the clouds roll in.
  3. Day 2 · 9 AM Kinabalu Park (UNESCO site) — the botanical garden opens at 9 AM. Nature trails, mountain views. 10 min from town.
  4. Day 2 · 11 AM Poring Hot Springs & Canopy Walkway — soak in the sulphur pools, walk above the rainforest. 45 min from Kundasang.
  5. Day 2 · 3 PM Back to the homestay. Rest, read, watch the clouds roll over the peak from your balcony.
  6. Day 3 · 8 AM Desa Dairy Farm — opens at 8 AM. Pre-book online. Last taste of fresh milk and gelato before you go.
  7. Day 3 · 11 AM Check out by 11 AM. Enjoy the fresh mountain air one last time before heading down.

These are the standard plans our hosts recommend. Ask your host to adjust — most will happily rearrange around weather or your travel timing.

Kundasang Travel FAQs

Quick answers to the questions guests ask most before visiting Kundasang.

How many days do you need in Kundasang?

We recommend staying at least two nights in Kundasang. This gives you enough time to visit Kinabalu Park, Poring Hot Springs, Desa Dairy Farm and a sunrise or sunset viewpoint without rushing. If you are only passing through, one night is enough for the main highlights.

Do I need to book Desa Dairy Farm in advance?

Yes. Walk-ins are generally not accepted at Desa Dairy Farm. You should purchase tickets online in advance through the official Desa Dairy Farm ticketing system.

What is the best time to visit Sosodikon Hill?

The best time is sunrise or early morning, usually between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM. Clouds often roll in later in the morning. Sunset is also possible, but sunrise gives the best chance of a clear Mount Kinabalu view.

How far is Poring Hot Springs from Kundasang?

Poring Hot Springs is about 40 to 45 minutes by car from Kundasang town, depending on traffic and weather. The canopy walkway usually closes earlier than the hot springs, so plan to arrive before midday if possible.

Is Kundasang colder than Kota Kinabalu?

Yes. Kundasang is a highland town, so it is usually cooler than Kota Kinabalu. Daytime temperatures often feel comfortable, while early mornings and evenings can feel chilly, especially after rain.
